The Member of Parliament for Pemba Constituency, Honourable Lameck Hamwaata, has called on residents to take full ownership of newly constructed Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects to ensure they benefit future generations.
Honourable Hamwaata made the appeal during the commissioning of five community projects, which include an ablution block at Japi Primary School in Hamaundu Ward, a weekly boarding house at Siazwela Secondary School in Yotam Muleya Ward, a water scheme in Demu Ward, a dip tank in Muzoka Ward and a three-bedroomed staff house at Malamba School in Dobo Ward on Monday 16th December, 2024.
The MP commended the government for allocating 311 new teachers to the district and thanked the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, for this initiative. He further urged the business community to partner with the government in constructing more staff houses for teachers to address the shortage of accommodation.
Speaking at the same event, Pemba Council Chairperson, Mr. Kingstone Handiindo, encouraged Ward Development Committees (WDCs) to identify priority areas for development, especially in remote parts of the district. He emphasized that community participation is critical for achieving inclusive growth.
“The New Dawn Government is guided by the principle of leaving no one behind, ensuring that even the most rural areas benefit from development,” he said.
Pemba District Commissioner, Mr. Obey Habeenzu, reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering quality, timely, and cost-effective projects.
He also highlighted the ongoing construction of an Early Childhood Centre in Habunkululu Ward, located near Siazwela Secondary School, which is set to benefit the local community.
Meanwhile, Pemba Town Council Secretary, Mr. Samuel Chilombo, assured residents that the council remains dedicated to combating poverty and unemployment by delivering critical infrastructure to empower communities and improve their livelihoods.
“The completion of these projects demonstrates the transformative impact of CDF in addressing the needs of our communities. These structures are vital tools for development and will significantly improve lives across the district,” he said.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Chief Moyo, a representative of His Royal Highness Chief Hamaundu, ward councillors, heads of government departments, representatives from the private sector, and other notable dignitaries.
